Start with the problem you need addressed
An unpaid balance, a disputed entry and a letter requesting information are different concerns. Tell us what happened, which tax year is involved and what you need explained. If you understand the debt but cannot pay it at once, say so. If you think the amount is wrong, explain why rather than treating a payment proposal as the answer to that disagreement.
We help you discuss the relevant service and the information it needs. You can begin with the notice and a brief account of the problem; the first conversation does not require a perfectly completed file.
Understand the purpose of each option
Payment arrangements concern paying a balance over time. An offer in compromise is a separate settlement process with eligibility and financial review. Penalty relief has its own conditions. None of those labels alone establishes that an option applies to you.
Ask which process is being considered, why it relates to your situation and what work assistance would include. Current IRS instructions and your account facts determine the applicable requirements and any decision.
Agree on a clear next step
Before authorizing work, understand the scope, fees, responsibilities and method for sharing documents. Ask who will follow up and how you will receive explanations or confirmation. A service discussion should make the next action understandable without promising approval, a particular reduction or a collection outcome.
